If anyone know Korean and English both pretty well, I have alot of Korean smi subs if you want to directly translate from Korean to English. Or if you know Japanese and can translate from the audio. PM me so I can send u the subs.
I found the following list of Jdramas timed smi files for all episodes(which can be converted from smi in Vobsub to srt easily) So if you plan to sub any of these(or already started but not finished yet), you can check if these files synch to your Raw file.
Update:
Any jdrama that is airing or aired in the past year.
I can get the timed subs 3-5 days after aired:
Slow Dance
Haruka 17
Gakkou No Sensei
Omiai Kekkon
Ai Kurushii
Anego
Boku No Madonna
Overtime
(I know both of these are highly demanded and Overtime's tv rip just sucks, so dunno if anyone have DVD rip/HQ rip of either drama)
Love Revolution
24 hrs Emergency Room season 3 (Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji 3)
Antique
Ai Nante Irane Yo, Natsu
Bewitched
Egao no Hosoku
Fugoh Keiji
H2
Hotman2
Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Itoshi Kimi E
Long Love Letter
Love Story
Mother & lover
Mouichido Kisu
Psycho Doctor
Satorare
Sayonara Ozu Sensei
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu
Taiyo no Kisetsu
PM me if you want to start on one of the above and I can email you the timed subs.
Just search the year the drama came out, and it will show the drama title in Japanese, so goto jodrama.com to match up a title. There are more titles, but those are not well known dramas.

I need someone who can read Korean and/or have a Korean id, so we can get timed subs for new Japanese dramas. They have titles like Fujina Gene, Engine, among others, and might have older dramas. While I was fiddling with Clubbox, I noticed that most Japanese dramas(including new releases) are subbed and the smi files are available. Smi can be easily converted to ssa or srt(or other formats) using subresynch in VobSub. So, since I can't read Korean, I did search a bit and came across this site which appears to have smi subs(but not entirely sure).
But it requires member registration and it requires some sort of id, based on the web translation(the hint is the 'sub' word in the URL):
I used www.av.com
http://www.plusjapan.com/sub/sub_41.htm?db=japan_57
For registration, I used this site to translation the following URL(change settings to Korean->English)
http://www.appliedlanguage.com/trans/translate.aspx
http://www.plusjapan.com/member/member_reg.htm
Update: I found raws to the following:
http://clubbox.co.kr/kangjegu
Satatore:
- search for:
サトラレ
Overtime (although quality may not be DVD, it should be better than the tv rip)
Omiai Kekkon (Arranged Marriage) -search for:
お見合い結婚
and there's alot more raws, so if we lack RAWS, this is a good source and always 50kb/s, so not bad.

I can't get the subs off of clubbox because most are expired accounts, that's why I'm finding another source.
I found another one, which also requires to register:

Topics merged. We really didn't need a whole new thread on this. I hope you won't be spamming the whole board with this stuff like you did before with the Chinese sub proposition. Not that we don't appreciate the thought, but after posting a couple times, we get the point and the option is there for people to find._________________

| What do you have against .smi files? Lots of people like that format. I don't happen to be one of them but still. I think Subtitle Workshop can also translate between SMI and SSA/SRT. I think Amrayu has plans to do Ikebukuro West Gate Park. Maybe she could get the rough timing from those files. Although keep in mind that the Japanese and/or Chinese subs can be ripped (w/ subrip) for their timings if you have the DVDs. I think okumasama is the only releaser around here who uses that technique but it is do-able. Personally I find the DVD timings tend to completely suck and I have to redo them too much which I attribute to Japanese and Chinese being so different from English. Anyway thanks for the heads up on an opportunity for getting some rough timings for e-subbing.

oh, i see. you're not going to do the translations, you're just letting us know that there are sites that have timed subtitle files and they just need to be translated (into english or whatever).
that's a nice thing to do. i guess we'll just hope for some takers._________________ Use THUMBS UP/DOWN buttons to KEEP or DELETE posts.

| nothing against smi, just that d-addicts usually have srt subs, so thought people would like the norm. And also, heard smi software are not in English(its usually in Japanese or Korean) so might be difficulties there as well.

I tried to contact head Chinese fansubbers for dramas, but they don't give it out unless there's full collaboration between the timers, and since they translate so fast(not to mention much more manpower than us), so we never even gotten any timed subs from them. Even though I know they used for example our timed Phoneix (kdrama) subs for their subs. That's the problem. I don't know why they are so secretive about their original subbed files, and I already told them we're non-profit, but they never send me any subs(even after I send them several). I don't know, so I gave up. I contacted doudoujane which is the head of YYCAF, the main group. but not TSTK, so you main have luck there. Also, since at that time, Kdrama was against joint collaborations, but maybe if there's a team who want to fully collaborate with them?
Here's is an example of their reply:
I'm quite sorry say that we're a group,which is a whole.
We gather many translators, the we arrange every guy to sud some drama. So our group is a "team".
It's not allowed to give subs to others privately.Things like these must be permitted by our monitors.
If u want Gumiho(the nine-tailed fox)and Sainted Glass,maybe i can give u.But others it's a little difficult.
But in the end, I waited for Stained glass and Gumiho but no subs, so maybe they forgot.
