For many, this will simply be an alternative to KeyHole or TVU. I have been for many months offering a DVR solution with variants of the Mogulus flash player. It's now been moved to a private server using the JW Player and a 1Gb RTMP.
The quality is probably the finest you'll see from a live stream, but it obviously has it's flaws. I don't have the infrastructure to push out multiple channels at once. There are solutions, but that would require 5, or 10 times the costs I'm currently putting into the project. Also, while the video may be using flash, this also may create problems with users and low end machines. Hopefully the content is compact enough to fit the uses of most, though.
While the DVR stream is delivered in Flash, alternative Analog streams are available using Silverlight. The list is as follows:
Quote:
Nippon TV
TBS
Fuji TV
TV Asahi
TV Tokyo
Nagoya TV
TV Aichi
NHK Education
NHK General
Animax
You can view these channels using any of the links from the main site, or by clicking the following:
I can only hope this will work for users wanting higher quality, or for those who haven't been able to launch the well known alternatives. Also, if anyone can get in me touch with Waryas I'd appreciate it. He isn't returning my calls.

Please note that as of May 22nd, 2009, registration for Freshverse.com now requires an invite code. Sorry for the inconvenience. The reasons have been discussed before, but please remember this service is inherently non-profit and volunteer ran, so distributing content to 1,000 people at once is simply out of the question. If you simply can't find a code, then you can e-mail me if your patient. My e-mail is shrgnatlas@gmail.com.

This is awesome because its high quality and uses flash. I've never seen flash stream live-streams before, didn't think it could, but apparently JW player is some heavy ****... The quality seems slightly better than the TvAnts streams, definitly better than KeyHoleTV, and with no special software needed... Very cool.
How many users can the stream handle?

It is a 1Gb server, so we're looking at around 1,000 concurrent users?
1,000,000 / 768 = 1,302
Yeah, so I don't think we'll be having problems anytime soon.

There is always the possibility of a second, or hell, even third stream, but realistically every stream we push out requires (1) dedicated Computer, and Server, then (2) Slingboxes, and (2) Internet connections. It's hard enough to work with what we have now, so it would be simply impossible under our current budget to push out any more then we are.
Like I said though in the first post, chances are if it's a popular show during a peak hour, it'll probably be on. I've only had a few problems creating a varied schedule because the relay is out of Hokkaido, not Tokyo. This means most popular shows SHOULD air in the area, but sometimes they are shown a few days later, or in some cases, not shown at all.
If you have a show you really need just post here or e-mail me. From what I can tell tomorrow evening we'll have the schedule up, then we can adjust after that.
EDIT: Now you can! Download the Silverlight Applet to enjoy flipping through as many channels as you'd like, (well, as many as are embedded, that is). The service is a 1:1 analog though, so quality is up in the air. Check it out if you already haven't.
