is this even possible? converting hardsubtitles in a video file through a program to soft subs?
i mean other than the option of manually make a softsub... that is my question.

if not, any good recommendations of subtitle makers for beginners?
thanks

aha! bingo, thanks

i went through the subtitle ripping guides, now is this only possible with vob files? or could it be possible with .avi files as well?

or would i possibly have to convert .avi to vob files and then rip them of with subrip?

AVIsubdetector works for...*gasp*...AVIs O_o.
^_^" but the fine tuning is a little difficult if yu want this completely automatic.
i had a hard time configuring it to understand what the subtitles said.
in the end i just use it for ripping the timing. i have the program autodetect where the subs are and let it write whatver garbage it thought it said. then run it through a subtitle editor program.(Aegis works best when doing this). and lasty watching the video(at like 2x speed) with both hardsubs and softsubs just to see what subtitles where missed or improperly timed.
hope this helps ^_^
